Glasgow city council has been urged to recognise the anniversaries of two major clubs in the city this year. Analysis from the BPI – the UK association of independent and major record labels – has shown that independently released music has had its fourth consecutive year of growth. The publication is distributed free to BPI members but can also be purchased and viewed here. Figures reveal that the collective share of music consumption from independent labels including Dirty Hit, Partisan and PIAS was now at 26.9 per cent, up from 25.9 per cent in 2020 and 22.1 per cent in 2017. Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival has announced its 2022 line-up, featuring Stormzy, Björk, Phoebe Bridgers and more. The festival will run from July 1-16 on the shores of Lake Geneva, and feature an all-new layout for 2022. As well as its usual two venues – the Auditorium Stravinski and the Montreux Jazz Lab – the festival will reveal its “beating heart” in the form of a Lake House venue. The musician and actor stars in Robert Eggers’ viking epic as a whispering Seeress predicting the future of Alexander Skarsgård’s Amleth. The film follows Amleth as he seeks revenge for the murder of his father, played by Ethan Hawke, and aims to save his mother Queen Gudrún, played by Nicole Kidman.
